Six months ago, I left California and returned to the east coast. I took time to figure out my next move, and this spring I decided on Brooklyn. It feels so good to be back in the city that I will always call home. I love the hustle and bustle, the style, and the endless amount of places to discover.
That said, this is my first time living in Brooklyn. I’ve lived in Manhattan, Staten Island, worked in the Bronx – but never lived in the County of Kings.
So far, I’ve discovered so many cool spots in my neighborhood: coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants, a really good shoe repair guy. Oh, and there just so happens to be a Free People store on my corner. I found it the day after I moved in. My first thought was: Oh, crap. This can’t be good. The mannequins in the window were all wearing the outfits you dream of frolicking in on a casual but well-planned summer day. Crochet, low-backs, chokers. My wallet shed a tear just looking at them.
Naturally, I told my wallet to hush and walked inside.
DON’T STOP READING. I promise the word affordable is in the title of this post for a reason. There I was, surrounded by gorgeous skirts and off-the-shoulder tops, and all I could see were the sunglasses displayed on a small shelf in the front of the store. I walked over, picked up a two-toned retro pair, and glanced in the mirror. Love at first sight. Glanced at the price tag…
Loved them even more. To my surprise (and my wallet’s dismay), there were about 30 more styles of sunglasses in the back of the store, each one cuter than the next.
Did I change my mind and put the two-tones back?
Of course not. But I picked up a second pair – also, 20 bucks! I’ve had them both for about a month now, and I’ve already gotten my money’s worth – and a ton of compliments. If you’re looking for affordable, stylish, and unique sunglasses this summer, I highly recommend Free People. Here are the two that I own and where to buy them online:

P.S. The book in the featured photo of this post was my first read of the summer, and it was so good. Check it out: Who Do You Love, by Jennifer Weiner.
